Lytic Bacteriophages with Probiotics.

Overview :

Lytic bacteriophages in poultry work by specifically infecting and destroying target bacterial pathogens, essentially using a viral "killing" mechanism to combat infections. This process involves the phage attaching to the bacterial cell, entering, replicating, and ultimately causing the bacterial cell to burst and release new phages, thus spreading the infection and reducing the bacterial population.

Benefits

• Reducing Bacterial Contamination: Lytic bacteriophages can be used to reduce bacterial contamination in poultry farms, in meat processing, and on poultry carcasses.

• Targeting Specific Pathogens: They are particularly effective against specific pathogens that cause diseases in poultry, such as Salmonella and Campylobacter.

• Alternative to Antibiotics: Phage therapy offers a potential alternative to antibiotics, addressing concerns about antibiotic resistance and residues in food.

• Safety: Bacteriophages are generally considered safe for animals and humans, as they are highly specific to their target bacteria and are rapidly cleared from the host when the target bacteria are gone.

What is Probiotics?

Probiotics in poultry are live microorganisms, like bacteria and yeasts, that are added to poultry feed or drinking water to support the birds' health, performance, and growth. They help maintain a healthy gut environment by colonizing the digestive tract and competing with harmful bacteria. Probiotics also produce beneficial compounds and enhance the immune response, leading to improved disease resistance, feed efficiency, and overall well-being in poultry.

How Probiotics Work?

• Colonization and Competition: Probiotics colonize the intestinal tract, preventing harmful bacteria from taking root.

• Nutrient and Space Competition: Probiotics compete with pathogenic bacteria for nutrients and space in the gut, limiting their growth and proliferation.

  • Production of Beneficial Compounds: Probiotics produce substances like short-chain fatty acids, which are beneficial for gut health and overall metabolism.

• Immune Enhancement: Probiotics can stimulate the immune system, making birds more resistant to infections.
